Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan movie is an upcoming biopic based on the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, set in the Golden Age era from 1952–62.
National Award winner Keerthi Suresh was initially the first choice to play the lead female role alongside Ajay Devgn, but the producers felt she looked too young to portray a mother’s role in the film. Another South Indian actress, Priyamani, played this role.
Ajay Devgn portrays the role of Abdul Rahim, the architect of Indian football who paved the way for Indian football. This is based on the real-life experiences of Syed Rahim.
Maidaan release date
The film was initially scheduled to release on October 15, 2021. Later, due to various reasons, the release date was changed to June 2022 and then February 17, 2023. Now, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film has been postponed again. Maidaan will now be in April 2024.
Who is Syed Abdul Rahim?
Abdul Rahim, also known as Rahim Saab, was born in 1909 in Hyderabad. From 1950 to 1963 until his death, he was an Indian football coach and manager of the Indian national team. He was a teacher by profession, and his time as India’s football coach is considered the Golden Age because, under his guidance, the Indian team reached the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics football tournament, making India the first Asian country to do so.
Abdul Rahim also coached the Hyderabad City Police from 1943–63, and later in 1951, India won the gold medal in the Asian Games. In 1962, at the Jakarta Asian Games, he achieved his last and final success, where India defeated South Korea to win the gold medal.

According to sources, the budget of the film is expected to be around RS100 Cr . Ajay has promised that Maidaan will be one of the best films of his career. After the success of Tanhaji, all eyes are on him, and Maidaan is his next big film.
